Language Arts: All about Connection
we learn how to write simple sentences in the present tense : je suis heureux! Vous avez les balles.
We discover how to describe people and objects with adjectives. La balle rouge. Le grand homme.
we read legends and fairy tales from around the world and learn about telling stories.
We investigate the cultures around us and in the world to learn how to recognize our similarities, and to embrace diversity.
we practice reading smoothly and comfortably.
we organize and connect ideas in charts and stories to create a web of relationships
Math: We love 100
we become experts in numbers up to 100, using strategies like estimating, evens and odds, visualizing, skip counting and mental math, etc.
we get to recognize place values; what happens when we break apart large numbers?
we learn to be fluent and comfortable when adding and subtracting up to 100.
we make and explore regular patterns in numbers, symbols and shapes
we describe, compare, and measure objects and shapes. (how long is the pencil? what shapes make it?)
Science: The Circle of Life!
we learn about the relationship between the water system, environment, insects and animals together to create a Life Cycle
we discover how things change through physical and chemical processes
we experiment with motion and force to understand how things move.
Social Studies: It's A Small World
we explore how the things that happen in our community impact the world, and how the world impacts us.
we investigate the different regions and communities of Canada.
we learn about our community: how we get what we need, our roles and responsibilities, how we make decisions together.
We learn what it means to be a global citizen, and what our responsibilities are as members of our families, communities, countries, and the world.
Art: Exploring a Kalaidoscope we learn to explore art in a variety of ways:
we develop our unique, individual voices through art
we learn to take risks by experimenting and inquiring through art
we dance, make music, stage plays, and create artworks to communicate a story to others
we examine and experiment with many cultures of art, especially North Coast First Nations
P.E.: We Like To Move It!
we make daily physical activity a part of our routine

we learn what healthy personal practices and safe play looks like
we develop good communication skills and emotional management
we investigate the connections between physical, emotional, and mental health to take care of our whole selves
Applied Design, Skills, and Technology: Exploring our Future ADST is a course of study that attaches to other units, such as Science, Math, or Art. It is in large part experiential learning opportunities like experiments, STEM projects, technology building, and project planning and creation.
